In June 2010, the Queensland Government announced it was investing $18 million over four years in a program to establish Queensland as Australia's 'greenfield' exploration capital by the year 2020.

Known as Greenfields 2020, this new program is designed to identify new mineral and energy provinces and to also revitalise interest in more mature provinces by providing new information through the application of new ideas and technologies.

Encompassing eight major initiatives, Greenfields 2020 represents a multi-faceted approach to best identify and promote the significant resource potential that resides in 'greenfield' regions of the State.

Individual initiatives under the Greenfields 2020 program comprise:

• Collaborative Drilling Grants
• Integrated Information Infrastructure
• Exploration Attraction
• Western Geothermal
• Gas Security
• Coal 2020
