Competitive cash bidding

The Queensland Government has announced a new competitive cash bidding process for the way land is made available for companies seeking the right to explore for coal, petroleum and gas resources in Queensland.

This process involves the controlled and competitive release of land for exploration inclusive of a cash bidding component that reflects the in-ground value of the resource for certain areas.

Read the media release on the announcement of the new competitive cash bidding process.

Tendering now closed

Tenders have closed for the first round of land available for petroleum and gas exploration under the new competitive cash bidding process.

More information on the next land releases for exploration under the new competitive process will be made available later in the financial year.

Non-cash tenders

Land of unknown or limited prospectivity (i.e. greenfield areas) will be released through non-cash competitive bidding processes. This will help facilitate continued interest in greenfields exploration in Queensland from the smaller mining exploration sector.

Non-cash tenders will follow the existing process where the exploration authority is competitively allocated after an assessment of a tenderer's work program, financial/technical capability and capacity to meet all relevant assessment criteria.
