Mine safety and health
Through the Mine Safety and Health group, the department licenses the use of explosives and gas, and oversees the safety and health of people who work in Queensland mines and allied industries and allied industries, and also any communities affected by mining or explosives. It also licenses the use of explosives and gas, and coordinates the management, assessment and remediation of historical or abandoned mines.

Training, certification and research in relation to mine safety and health are undertaken by a branch within the Mine Safety and Health group, Simtars.
