The Explosives Inspectorate

The Explosives Inspectorate, Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation are responsible for safety in the explosives and fireworks industries.  The department works closely with industry and the community to ensure the safety of people working in these industries and the general public.

The department's role is to ensure that the community is safe from the hazards of explosives and related materials through:

  • ensuring that there are standards for the safe handling and use of explosives
  • monitoring explosives activities to ensure compliance with standards
  • responding effectively to explosives accidents and incidents
  • administering government explosives reserves for the storage and distribution of explosives.

Fireworks advisory committee

The fireworks advisory committee (FAC) is made up of representatives from the Explosives Inspectorate, the Australian Pyrotechnics Association (APA) and the Australian Professional Pyrotechnicians' Association (APPA). The committee meets regularly to discuss issues related to the fireworks industry.
